What the free app includes

Free does not mean a reduced trial. The downloadable app includes watched folders, local rule creation, presets, the review queue, history, undo, and every current safety control. You can organize files without creating an account and without enabling AI.

If you choose AI, bring credentials for a supported provider or connect a local Ollama model. Credentials remain in macOS Keychain. Your provider may bill its own usage, and its privacy terms apply to requests sent directly from your Mac.

What Mochi Pro is intended to add

Pro is planned for people who want optional AI classification without opening and maintaining separate provider accounts. The listed A$8 monthly price is the current launch plan, not a charge being collected today. The final service will publish its supported providers, quotas, billing terms, and updated privacy policy before subscriptions open.

Hosted models will not gain filesystem access. They return a suggestion to the Mac client, where allowed destinations, review, and file operations remain controlled. Exact model versions must pass the published benchmark gate.

What “open source” means here

Mochi’s source is published under its repository license. You may inspect the application code, privacy architecture, release workflow, and distribution contract. Releases are still packaged artifacts, so verify the current checksum and signing information before installing.

Choosing the right setup

Use the free app with local rules when filenames, extensions, tags, and dates already express your system. Add local Ollama if you want optional classification to remain offline. Bring a provider key when you are comfortable with that provider processing limited descriptions. Consider Pro only after it launches and its convenience is worth the recurring price.
