# A clear Desktop, kept clear.

A cluttered Desktop slows you down every time you look for something. Start with a built-in quick fix, then set up a few rules so files stop accumulating.

## The 10-second fix: Stacks

Right-click the Desktop and choose **Use Stacks**. macOS groups Desktop files into stacks by kind, such as Images, PDF Documents, and Screenshots. You can also group by date or Finder tag from the same menu.

Stacks hide the clutter without moving anything. Your files stay on the Desktop, so the stacks keep growing and searching inside them gets slower over time.

## Decide what the Desktop is for

The Desktop works best as a short-term workspace: the file you are editing today, a screenshot you are about to send. Long-term files belong in folders such as Documents or Pictures. Once you treat it this way, deciding where each kind of file should go becomes easy to express as a rule.

## Keep it clear automatically with Mochi

- Add Desktop as a watched folder; macOS asks you to approve access.
- Open Quick Rules and add Screenshots, PDFs, Images, and Documents.
- Choose destinations such as Documents or Pictures. Each Quick Rule sorts into its own subfolder.
- Review the proposed moves, approve the correct ones, and reject anything you still need on the Desktop.

Every completed move is recorded in History, so you can find where a file went and undo eligible moves.

## If your Desktop syncs with iCloud

When Desktop and Documents sync with iCloud Drive, moves made by Mochi sync like any move made in Finder. Choose destinations deliberately, and remember that moving a file out of an iCloud-synced folder into a local folder changes which devices can see it.

## A five-minute weekly habit

Rules handle the predictable files. Once a week, look at what remains on the Desktop: delete what you no longer need, file the rest, and add a rule if the same kind of file keeps appearing. Over time the Desktop stays close to empty without daily effort.
